  • Kids Kottage, an art & activity center for children, is having a Grand Opening Festival on March 8th, from 11am until 3pm. Kids Kottage is a resource in the community for families, businesses and artists. No child will be charged a fee for accessing any of our services. We are located 1 block S of Main Street in downtown Safety Harbor. The Grand Opening event will include an inflatable, games, food, entertainment, face painting and craft activities for children. All of the activities and the food are free. Safety Harbor Elementary School’s choir will perform and twenty students from the school have been selected to participate in an art exhibit.

    .

We are inviting artists that love children and want to see them discover their creativity to join us in this wonderful day of celebration. Artist and crafters can set up at NO CHARGE. We are publicizing this event in many ways. We expect a very high turnout.

If you know of anyone that would love to participate in this community event, please contact me at 727-710-3710. Thank you so much.

  • Treetops Benefit Supports Climbing Pioneer

Pathfinder Outdoor Education will hold a benefit tree climbing event on April 5th at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve in St. Petersburg. All proceeds from The Pathfinder Giving Tree Benefit Climb will support medical expenses for Abe Winters, founder of Tree Climbing USA. Abe, a Florida native who grew up in Gulfport, is currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

The benefit climb will replace Pathfinder’s regular “open climb” held the first Saturday of each month. The public is welcome to attend and be a part of this uplifting event, held from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Open to children and adults, the minimum age to climb is 6 years old. Safely tethered by ropes and harness, participants have the opportunity to ascend into the branches of a live oak tree, sit in a sky chair, or hang out in a cargo net 30 feet above ground. Suggested donations to climb are $10 for the first family member, and $5 each additional member. In addition to the tree climb, the public can experience music by Barney Waterbury of The Urban Gypsies. “Captain Barney”, who is also a Pathfinder tree climbing facilitator, will lead several impromptu drum circles throughout the day. Commemorative photographs will be made available for each climber, for a small donation.

A tree climbing enthusiast and master instructor, Abe Winters is affectionately called a “shady character” by his students and clientele. In 2003, he was instrumental in helping to bring the sport of canopy tree climbing to the Tampa Bay Area. In addition to teaching instructors around the country, Abe personally trained all of Pathfinder’s advanced tree climbing facilitators. Each year he also leads expeditions for tree climbing in the rain forests of Panama.

Pathfinder Outdoor Education is a local non-profit, whose mission is “helping youth and adults develop positive and engaged learning communities.” Experiential, “hands-on” education programs for leadership training, environmental education and diversity awareness are offered to schools and corporate groups. The heart of each Pathfinder program emphasizes building community through character development. It’s “Tree-mendous Tree-climbing” program continues to be one of Pathfinder’s most requested events.

For more information on The Pathfinder Giving Tree Benefit Climb for Abe Winters, or to make a donation, please call Pathfinder at 727-328-0305.
