More than self-publishing her memoirs, Marcia Freespirit began her own publishing company, which opened late in 2006. Riverview-based JimSam Inc., has since picked up two additional authors- Kristi Kennedy, CEO of NuLife Solutions and Jim Cheatham, CEO of The Lionshare Group - and is interviewing a dozen more. Freespirit’s memoir, Gladwoman, is set to be released late February. "I’d say it’s the journey of a young lady into womanhood over one of the rockiest roads anyone can imagine. It’s a triumphant recollection of hard times and the lessons learned," says chief editor of the University Of Tampa newspaper, Joshua Kratovil. As she struggled through the process of writing and self-publishing the book, Marcia looked to other established local authors and author hopefuls for advice and suggestions. It didn’t take long for her to discover that there was a wide range of people looking to get their works published, but who didn’t know how to go about it. Traditionally, the cost of self-publishing a book is estimated at ten to fifteen thousand dollars. “But publishing with JimSam Inc. is often less than half that projected cost,” says Freespirit. “It isn’t just that people don’t know how to get published, but also that they want to keep the rights to their work, and maintain greater creative control. With most publishing companies, you forfeit those rights – but here at JimSam Inc., we like to keep the reins in the hands of the authors.” The newfound publisher continues, “I’m passionate about what I do, and want to help other people achieve their dreams of getting published.” “I had never originally planned to do this… but I saw the need, and couldn’t find a reason not to do it,” admits Freespirit. The company’s website is still under construction, however is planned to be under the domain www.jimsaminc.com. Until then, Freespirit can be reached at 813-748-9523.
