The Future of CTB: Living as Civic Activists

Ever stop to think about what the Tampa Bay region would be like if its potential was fully realized? What if reaching its potential involved focused groups of civic activists united by a vision for the region? Upon hearing the word activist, visions of tree huggers and extremists used to come to mind. A long time supporter of various causes, I thought that people who really achieved change devoted uncommon amounts time and passion to their cause. After being involved with CreativeTampaBay since it’s founding, the words have new meaning. In collaboration with like-minded partners and supporters, the CTB Board of Directors has been making a difference in our community for three years and been the brains and brawn for all of the organization’s activities. We all have had other jobs and interests, but bonded over the notion that we can shape the growth of Tampa Bay as a vibrant, creative, diverse, and economically abundant place to live. And yes we’ve devoted uncommon amounts of time and passion to the cause.

As 2007 begins we have rededicated ourselves to the mission of economic development though growth in creative industry. While many still believe that we are solely an arts organization, our intentions are more far reaching. Our plans are to expand our network of advisors, partners, thinkers, sponsors and activists that connect to achieve goals in workforce and economic development, entrepreneurship, and building community. To do this we invested in an Executive Director. I pursed the position with extremist enthusiasm because I have seen what we have achieved together. And I have a passion for where we are going. We have had many grassroots efforts but are no longer a homegrown organization. We have local, national and global connections that enhance our potential for success. This is our time.

As the first and new Executive Director of CreativeTampaBay, I invite you to share your ideas, wisdom and passion about our Tampa Bay. Over the next several months we’ll need help with events and speakers to connect people, ideas and action, and with getting the word out through our newsletter, the Buzz. We will also need sponsorships for continuing our research and starting new projects. Contact me at Donna@CreativeTampaBay.com with your questions and input.  Let’s become civic activists united around one cause. I look forward to working with you to make our Tampa Bay the vibrant region we envision.

  • Thanks…
…for all you are doing - we are lonely out here - we are the only think tank in the Tampa Bay area that we know of….since 1990…
Please encourage others to start Regional Think Tanks - we need more competition!
    thanks
