The University of South Florida has entered into a partnership with Apple Computer, Inc., making iTunes U available to students later this fall. The free, hosted service gives students easy 24-hour-a-day access to educational content. It will enhance the high-tech teaching and learning initiatives already in place at USF. Stanford University, UC Berkeley and MIT are among the other universities that have employed the iTunes U platform for distributing audio and video among students, faculty and other users. A group of about 80 USF faculty members recently saw a demonstration of iTunes U, and all were excited by the possibilities, said Diane Williams, director of the Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence in the USF College of Education. Since 2005, the Center has offered podcasting. “We already have the resources to be on the cutting edge of instructional technology,” Williams said. “We use it every day.”

Two of Tampa’s fine art galleries – Michael Murphy Gallery M and Blue Acier – have collaborated to bring nationally acclaimed artist Edna Hibel to the area. Considered one of America’s best loved and most versatile artists, Hibel is often referred to as the “female Norman Rockwell” of our time. She is widely respected for her innovation and prolific production in stone lithography and porcelain. Hibel’s work has been exhibited in prestigious museums and galleries in more than 20 countries on four continents, and her images are widely recognized and understood. Gallery M will host the opening reception of the painting, drawing and printing exhibition on Fri., Oct. 27, 6:30 to 9 PM and a stone lithograph drawing demonstration on Sat., Oct. 28 from 2 to 4 PM. Bleu Acier will host a demonstration of printing on stone the same day from 5 to 7 PM. Edna Hibel has never done a public lithography demonstration which makes this a rare opportunity to see a world-renowned artist compose her image on a stone and then see her collaborating side by side with master printer Erika Schneider of Blue Acier. Two recent announcements further cemented St. Petersburg’s position as a cultural hub in Florida. The University of South Florida’s College of Business Administration’s Executive MBA program was ranked #10 in the country for Hispanics, according to Hispanic Trends Magazine. Results were based on job placement, results from the Graduate Management Admissions Council test, Hispanic and minority student enrollment, proportion of students who hold the position of chairman, CEO or president, and the average base salaries and work experience of new entrants. Other schools listed were Columbia University, Northwestern University and Notre Dame. USF’s program was founded in 1981 and has produced over 900 graduates. Benefits to the program are its flexibility and comparatively low cost. For more information about the program, visit http://emba.usf.edu.
