Description: LIGHTS ON TAMPA HOSTS LECTURE WITH VISITING ARTIST PABLO VALBUENA
Lights On Tampa, the biennial production of innovative artists’ projects, new commissions, and exhibitions in public spaces, presents the first of its juried artists, Pablo Valbuena of Madrid, Spain, through a free lecture offered on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, from 4:00-5:00pm at the Tampa Museum of Art Dickey Family Lecture room, located at 120 Gasparilla Plaza.
The lecture will provide insight to Valbuena’s use of space and light within the context of architecture and the public realm.
Pablo Valbuena was born in 1978, studied Architecture at Politécnica University in Madrid. In the past he has worked for several international videogame and film studios investigating spatial concepts applied to virtual environments and digital architecture as a concept designer. “I use video projection with perspective and anamorphosis techniques to build ‘perceptual extensions’ of the actual physical space, extending the limits of what is physically real to what is perceptually real.” By using geometric forms and light, Valbuena alters multiple dimensions of space-time, creating an astounding visual experience. www.pablovalbuena.com
Lights On Tampa is a biennial program and a public/private partnership that opens the door for visitors and residents alike to experience artistic excellence and emerging technologies in the urban environment. The program’s goal is to bring free access to artistic excellence to Tampa’s citizens and visitors through a unique experience. A blend of art and technology, the program features the talents of local, national and international artists commissioned by Tampa’s Public Art Program, the private sector through Friends of Tampa Public Art, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of Florida’s Division of Cultural Affairs. This award-winning program is set to return to downtown Tampa, in the new Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, on February 19, 2011 to continue its mission to engage, entertain and educate the community. www.lightsontampa.org
