Chalk Walk brings the community together around art and shows how outside the box thinking about art can improve business and activate an area. This Mother’s Day weekend, May 7th through 9th, the sidewalks of Hyde Park Village will be covered with art during the 2nd Annual Chalk Walk art festival. Over 45 artists, including 12 plein aire artists will be joining together in Hyde Park Village to celebrate the arts in Tampa Bay and to compete for $2,600 in prizes. The impressive roster of artists includes last year’s featured artist Lee Jones.
This three-day festival will have family-friendly entertainment, live music from Chris McCarty and local group Have Gun, Will Travel, drink specials on Friday and Saturday, food, art for sale, a chalk drawing experience for children and physically challenged individuals, and so much more. Chalk Walk is a great way for all to enjoy arts and culture in our community.
The Chalk Walk is organized by The Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture and the Arts (TBBCA). Proceeds from the event help further the mission of the TBBCA, to help build a stronger arts and cultural community with the support of area businesses.
In conjunction with Chalk Walk, TBBCA has opened a temporary Artist Gallery in an available retail space in Hyde Park till May 9th. The gallery is a great way for local artists to make some additional income and the participating artists will make 100 percent of the sales. Studies show that for every $1 given to arts and cultural organizations $9.77 is generated in economic benefit! So Tampa Bay, lets join together to celebrate art and make an impact (economic) on our community!
